Treatment of small localised fat deposits

Injection lipolysis after careful assessment

Injection lipolysis may be considered for selected, clearly defined small fat deposits. It is not a weight-loss treatment and does not replace nutrition, exercise or surgery. The exact area, product and personal medical assessment are essential.

What injection lipolysis means

A fat-cell-disrupting substance is injected into a defined subcutaneous fat deposit. The body then clears the treated cells over several weeks. The change develops gradually and is not completely predictable.

Not every product described as injection lipolysis is approved for every body area. The active substance, intended use and any off-label use are discussed explicitly before treatment.

When this treatment is not suitable

The method is not intended for obesity, large volumes of fat or unexplained swelling. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, active inflammation, relevant liver disease, clotting disorders or certain medicines may rule it out.

For larger areas or a different goal, observation, lifestyle measures, liposuction or no treatment may be more appropriate.

Reactions, risks and aftercare

Swelling, redness, burning, tenderness, bruising, firmness or temporary numbness may occur. Less common complications include infection, tissue injury, nerve injury, swallowing difficulty or uneven contours.

Severe pain, spreading redness, fever, marked swallowing difficulty or neurological symptoms require prompt medical assessment.
