Doctor-led wrinkle treatment

Using botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid for the right indication

Botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid work in different ways and are not interchangeable. A personal examination clarifies the concern, whether an injection is appropriate, and which risks or alternatives should be considered.

At a glance

  • Two distinct treatment principles
  • Treatment only after medical assessment
  • Documented planning and follow-up

Matching the method to the finding

Botulinum toxin reduces the activity of selected muscles. Hyaluronic acid is a filler that may restore volume or support contours. Their effects, duration, risks and contraindications differ.

Treatment does not follow a standard list of facial zones. Anatomy, expression, tissue quality, medical history and a realistic goal guide the plan.

Safety before treatment

Botulinum toxin is a prescription medicine and is used only after personal medical assessment. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, neuromuscular conditions, infection at the treatment site and some medicines may make treatment unsuitable.

For hyaluronic acid, previous fillers, allergies, clotting, skin inflammation and vascular anatomy are considered. The product, treatment area and alternatives are explained beforehand.

Side effects and urgent symptoms

Temporary redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness or headache may occur. Botulinum toxin can weaken a nearby muscle unintentionally, causing asymmetry or temporary eyelid droop.

A blocked blood vessel after filler is rare but serious. Severe unusual pain, pale or mottled skin, visual changes or neurological symptoms after an injection are an emergency and require immediate treatment.

Botulinum toxin alters selected muscle activity; hyaluronic acid is a filler. The suitable option depends on the clinical finding, not only the requested area.

Is follow-up included?

Yes. Timing and scope depend on the treatment. Contact the practice immediately if unexpected symptoms develop.
